imagesThe Sony Xperia Z has been hitting the headlines in recent months, after quickly becoming one of the Japanese manufacturers most successful Android smartphones to date, following its launch in January. The device has clocked up millions of sales, and achieved widespread acclaim from critics and positive feedback from users.

Before the Sony Xperia Z hit the market, the manufacturer released a number of other impressive devices as part of its Xperia range of Android smartphones. Among these are the Sony Xperia S, which was the company’s first flagship Android phone of 2012. Despite its age, the handset packs plenty of impressive specifications, including 32 GB of storage, 12 megapixel camera, 4.3 inch display, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and Android Gingerbread operating system. However, the handset has been subject to an update to its operating system during its time on the market, bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the handset.

The device is also in line for another operating system update, this time to Android 4.1.2 Jellybean. However, the rollout of this update has become somewhat infamous among Xperia S owners after being delayed several times, and being subject to inaccurate timeframes. Luckily, it appears that the wait is almost over, as XperiaBlog has reported that the update is now rolling out to Xperia S handsets.

The update will bring plenty of welcome upgrades to the somewhat ageing handset. These include the likes of project butter which provides faster and smoother interface performance, Google Now which is a voice activated personal assistant application, a number of aesthetic upgrades and redesigned qwerty keyboard and settings menus. The cheapest Xperia S prices and best Xperia Z offers can be found at PhonesLimited.

The website has recently reported that the update is now rolling out to Xperia S owners based in France, but this suggests that the update will hit the devices in other European markets including the UK in a matter of days. After months of eager anticipation, it looks like owners of the Sony Xperia S will soon receive the operating system update that they have been waiting so long to receive.
